What does fall 2014 have in store for us?

We were at the shows Capsule and Coterie last week to do our fall buying. One of the trends that we saw was the oversize, ugly, Grandpa sweater.  We fell for them hard.  Here is how Free People styled it (above).

Here is another grouping that we found.  Bill Cosby better hang onto his wardrobe!  Are you ready for this?!

Garance Dore

Traveling to the shows has been difficult this year - the weather has been horrid, we've all been sick and adding the Superbowl to the mix didn't help.  I finally made it to NYNOW after a cancelled flight, re-booking so I would actually have time at the show and then another storm hit NYC.

Rifle Paper Co. was on my list of must see stops because I was super excited to check out the new collaboration with Garance Dore.  BONUS!  She was there with her boyfriend Scott Schuman!

Dream come true.  If only I could have stopped shaking...

Harsh winter blues

This winter has been rugged!  Who wants to strip down to try clothes on when you can't leave the house with less than three layers on! The only thing that can lift our spirits is new merchandise.  We got in Maison Scotch this week and we are obsessed with the La Parisienne aquarium jeans.

Here's to warmer days because it's sad that 12 degrees feels "mild".

Uh oh

I just came across this article - The 10 things that only fashion people love.  We currently have 4 out of the 10 things in the shop.  That doesn't sound so bad but we don't carry shoes (2 of the items) or eye glasses.

This one really got me - what is wrong with leather sweatpants?  Okay...as I type that, I can imagine them being styled completely wrong.  We currently have a perforated black faux leather in from BLQ.MKT that I am coveting.

What could be simpler than a jumpsuit?!  Not ideal party wear...but throw one on with some jewels and you are ready for work.  We currently have a variety of jumpsuits in- a jersey piece from BB Dakota, denim from Free People and a rayon overall just came in the other day.

The last one that really got me was neoprene.  Whatev.  It's easy to care for, fun to wear and can hold a great shape! We currently have a great collection in from Clover Canyon.  To die for.

Doppelganger

Meet mine.  When my friend Kirstin pointed this image out to me, I had to take a double take.  Was that really me?  Wait - I don't own any of that clothing and I had to cancel my trip to NYC...but for a hot second...I almost thought it was.

Update to this post - I got to meet Garance Dore at the NYNOW show.  I told her about this picture (she had never seen it).  I felt like an idiot telling her how I thought we looked alike but I couldn't stop babbling...or shaking...

Santa!

We hosted a special shopping night last night but the ice storm really put a damper on the event.  Our Santa was stuck on 89.  A trip that normally would have taken 45 minutes took 3 hours and two buses!  He finally made it and we elves celebrated!

City sidewalks

I made a quick trip into the city to look at Maison Scotch and Giles & Brother pre-fall collections.  Yes...pre-fall.  You know I love any excuse to go to the city but New York is just magical during the holidays.

My favorite thing to do is shop the windows for display ideas. This shop used business cards to create a simple wreath.

The garland at Frye took my breath away - proving that classic simplicity is sometimes the best approach to a window display.

I may have an addiction.

I am addicted to Clover Canyon.  There, I said it.

We just got in the resort collection, inspired by Cuba and it's lush tropical influences.  Clover Canyon is designed and produced in Los Angeles.  Each pattern is thoughtfully placed and even cheeky at times.

Come in and check it out - we also will be getting in swim suits this spring!

What comes around goes around

Where have I been...I haven't been in hiding or kidnapped .  But the lack of posts this summer, beg to differ.  I'm feeling hopeful and inspired for this upcoming holiday season.  Maybe it will translate into some posts...

The image is of Free People for our November delivery.  Overalls are back and you'll see them in a variety of fabrications.  These are a fitted herringbone twill.  We also ordered the printed maxi skirt.  Hope to see you soon!

Sweet Lady Jane is turning 10

design by DaveBarronDesign.com
We have a very special milestone coming up next month - we are turning 10!  To celebrate, we are asking our Sweet Lady Jane friends and family to submit their SLJ memories, favorite outfits or anything that reminds them of Sweet Lady Jane.  We've had some great submissions...
"This is my Favorite Free people dress purchased from Sweet Lady Jane a few years ago, It was my 30th Birthday Surprise Party and the dancing on the bar was toward the end of the night after MANY pomegranate cosmos!! Sweet lady Jane has always been my go to for the perfect outfit for the perfect event in my life... need I say more! :)"
"Happy Birthday SLJ! Thanks for being there to dress me for all the important events in my life! This is a picture from the day my now husband and I got engaged. The green corduroy jacket is by tulle and the jeans are by it jeans. I'm also pretty sure the bag and umbrella are from Trinket."

Elizabeth Knight

Here at Sweet Lady Jane, we have a serious Elizabeth Knight obsession.  It has become an addiction for me personally - I want every piece that she comes up with!  Here is a peak at some of her newer pieces - the horn cuff (I own this) and folded chain earrings (we all want a pair).
Pictured here is the bullet cuff, lion claw ring (I have one on order and Erica owns one) and the hera earrings.
Here are the hydra earrings (Jess owns these).  We can get them plain or with jeweled eyes!  Hmmm...I might just have to order a pair.

One of my favorite things about traveling is packing.  I love going through my books, favorite blogs and notes , to come up with ideal outfits.  And then if all else fails - I just start throwing my favorite pieces in the bag and hope for the best.  This seems to happen all to often...

French Connection show 2012

We had our annual French Connection fashion show this month.  We transformed the store into a mini runway, offered unique pieces that were exclusive for the weekend and brought a slice of NYC fashion to Burlington.
Rachel and Robin
Meet Robin (on the right)!  She is the one responsible for all of our trunk show treasures and is our representative for French Connection.  She literally stopped traffic in those sequin pants.
From left to right: Kat, Jackie, Kelsey, Sara, Taylor.  Center: Erica
We had a talented crew behind the scenes; make was done by Makeup by Kirstin, hair was by Hannah Wall and our very own Erica did the styling.  The models were local friends of the shop.

When the show was over, we took the party to the streets.  Here is Jonathan Couture, our talented photographer for the evening, enjoying a moment with the models.

Coterie and spring 2013

Let's skip winter and go right into spring!  Wouldn't that be great...  Jess and I attended Coterie a few weeks ago and had that exact sentiment.  We were blown away by French Connection, Clover Canyon, Free People, BB Dakota, and our new favorite line, Maison Scotch.
This French Connection dress will be in my closet.  Oh yeah.  They had some pretty amazing dresses, perfect for weddings and graduation parties.
Free People was bohemian as ever...
Maison Scotch...sneak peek...

The Shiny Squirrel and Elizabeth Knight

Jessica and Elizabeth
These are two of my favorite NYC ladies.  Jessica aka The Shiny Squirrel, is a genius at spotting new talent, is an awesome stylist and has overall amazing taste in everything!   We discovered Elizabeth Knight through Jessica and she was an instant hit with us and our customers.  Her work is fabulous and she couldn't be a nicer person.  It's such a treat to get to meet the your favorite artist in person and discuss their work and the direction they see their jewelry going.

p.s. they are both on Instagram if you want to follow some great people

Gypsies and Debutantes

Summer time - when I was growing up, summer meant going to the beach, making life long friends and writing to them all winter until you saw them again the next summer.  Sometimes we would seal the friendship with a bracelet.  Forever friends.  The friendship bracelet is back and better than ever!  Check out these beauties from Gypsies and Debutantes
