Level 99

We finally got in Level 99- a great low rise, wide leg jean for under $100. They look like they're running a size or two big. If you want them to hang on your hips, go for a size smaller than usual and for a fitted 70's look, try two sizes smaller. The mannequin is wearing a size 27 and she normally wears a size 29. We have sizes 25 through 30 in-stock.

Outfit of the week...

This is a simple one and yet so stylish. Add a great bag, a pair of sunglasses, and you're ready to go. The cotton shift is by Corey Lynn Calter ($220), the vintage leather linen handbag is by Hobo ($198), the sunglasses are by A.J. Morgan ($20) and the large slouchy tote is also by Hobo ($224).

Fall Free People.

I met with my Free People representative this morning, Tom Gomez, and placed my fall orders. My favorite piece was this printed sweater tunic. The collection was a inspired by Biba, a department store in London. Some of the other pieces that I liked were: wide leg plaid trousers, silky printed blouses, satin outerwear and bell shaped sweaters. I'm sure our customers will find a lot to love about this August delivery.

How I spent my weekend.

It was a busy weekend at the store but I spent it with my two fellas- Nate and Buddha. We were in Williston for the dog agility and jumping trials. Buddha earned his novice title in both events and it's only his second time out! His trainer Lori put in a lot of hard work and it showed. If you're interested in learning more about dog training, you can take a look at Lori's site: Waggles.

I love orange.

My office is finally finished. I moved back in today and got all of our back stock put in place. I have a lot more room and I feel more efficient. I can now actually reach for something without something else falling on me.

The weather has improved significantly. We had the door open all day today and there were actual signs of spring (large groups of youth milling around Church Street).

Free cone day!

Today was free cone day at Ben & Jerry's. The line stretched down the block for most of the day. It was like people had never tasted ice cream before!

Ed has been remodeling my cramped office and stock room for the last 2 days. I'm lost without my space. He should be done tomorrow, so I can put back all of our back stock and catch up on my paperwork.

Outfit of the week...

Okay so this is a personal favorite. The madras plaid jacket is from Free People and it's $108. It's super soft, feels like you've had it forever and has a bib front with some pleating underneath. For some reason it reminds me of the beach. The camisole underneath is also from Free People and is a pretty basic to have. The lace detail looks sweet poking out from underneath another layer. It retails for $38. The light chambray wrap skirt is from Corey Lynn Calter and it sells for $136. It's just a soft as the jacket and has large pork chop pockets on either side. Notice the cute brown gingham bow in the front.

Sale day

We had a very busy day, filled with a lot of well wishers. Kirsten came in with her new puppy Rocco. What a cutie. I could barely say hi to her because the store was packed. I hope they come back in soon.

Now that we have some room, I can unpack the goodies that we have stashed in the back. We got in some great French Connection pieces and more Free People. Check it out this week.

Happy 4th Anniversary SLJ

Happy Anniversary Sweet Lady Jane! It was a nice, sunny day today with a big snowstorm looming for tomorrow. It is April isn't it? Thank you for the flowers Caitlin- you'll always be part of SLJ.

I love the necklaces that we have from Pyrrha. The pendants are based on authentic 19th century family wax seals. Each piece comes with a card explaining the symbolism of the necklace. They got a mention in Daily Candy - check it out. The one pictured here is my personal favorite- the two eagle crest. The eagles are symbolic of nobility and ingenuity. The motto reads "Dum spiro spero" meaning "While I breathe I hope".

A fresh look for the jewelry cases.

I finally found the time to tackle the jewelry cases. We just got in a great selection of Satya jewelry. Come in and experience the unique and beautiful nature of their yoga inspired pieces.

I continued with our spring sewing theme and framed old fabric in embroidery hoops. It's a great way to display fabric that you can't part with. I also used some of Grandma's old sewing spools.

We had a busy day today. A lot of customers were pre-shopping for next week's sale. Be sure to be here next Saturday (April 14, 2007)!

We got in some great new bags from Latico. I love the brushed gold hardware. The white bag to the left is also available in a great olive green. You know I'm going to have to own that one.

Outfit of the week...

I love the simple ease of this outfit. The top would be great with jeans and the pants would pair easily with a ribbed tank and flip flops. The necklace is By Boe and is $38. It's a single strand of vintage beads, adjustable length and is smokey grey color. The cotton racer back cami is by Kenzie and is $28. The smocked cotton empire top is one of the new pieces from Corey Lynn Calter. It retails for $138 and is also available in watermelon. The super relaxed linen and rayon pinstripe pants are by Free People and are $98.

What happened to spring? This is what I woke up to this morning.

Next week is the fourth anniversary of Sweet Lady Jane! To celebrate, we are collaborating with Stella and offering 20% off all day at both stores. Should be fun.

We got hit hard yesterday- 5 boxes of Free People, Kenziegirl, Covet, Corey Lynn Calter and a new line from New York called Here be Dragons. Someone has to stop me. Everything looks fantastic and I spent the day trying to make room for it all, while Kate ironed diligently. The shirt dress pictured is from Here be Dragons and is also available in eggplant- my personal choice. It's sized x-small through large and appears to be running true to size. I will post pictures of the Corey Lynn Calter pieces soon- there are some really special pieces.

What's happening at Sweet Lady Jane

Spring has arrived! We finally had the door open and Church Street was hopping. The shop is packed with new merchandise from Free People, Kenzie and Hobo bags. We got in a new line this week called RavenTailored. They're really nice pants but arrived with unfinished hems. I called the company to question this and their response was that it was standard. This allows the customer to have them tailored for their height. Not going to fly with my customers. I decided I'll have to offer free tailoring. Oh- they also run two sizes smaller than your average pant. Great.
